Distance versus Displacement
The Distance vs. Displacement Concept Builder is comprised of nine situations in which a multi-stage motion is described and the learner must determine the distance and the displacement for the motion. There are three levels of difficulty with three different situations per level. Those three difficulty levels are differentiated as follows:
- Apprentice Level: Situations 1-3; two-stage motion
- Masters Level: Situations 4-6; three-stage motion
- Wizard Level: Situations 7-9; four-stage motion
Situations become more complicated as the level increases. Teachers are encouraged to view the questions in order to judge which level of difficulty is most appropriate for their classes. We recommend providing students two or more options. For instance, it might be profitable for a student to complete the Concept Builder at the
Apprentice Level in order to gain some confidence and then to be challenged to complete the activity at the
Masters Level.
