Which One Doesn't Belong - Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory

The Which One Doesn't Belong - Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory Concept Builder challenges learners to use the Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Theory to determine the shape of a molecule if given its formula. Each question presents learners with three different formulas. Learners must first toggle through a collection of three to six possible Lewis Diagrams and identify the correct Lewis Diagrams. Once the three Lewis Diagrams have been correctly identified, they must determine which of the three molecules has a molecular shape that is different than the other two.

There are a total of 36 questions in this Concept Builder. They are organized into 12 different Question Groups and spread across the three difficulty levels. Question-specific help is provided for each of the 12 situations. Questions in the same Question Group include the same molecules; only their order has been scrambled. The three difficulty levels differ in terms of the number of questions that must be answered and the sophistication of the Lewis Diagrams. The built-in score-keeping makes this Concept Builder a perfect candidate for a classroom activity.
