Subatomic Particles - Questions

The Subatomic Particles Concept Builder is comprised of 12 multiple-part questions. The questions involve the completion of a table of data for the atomic number, mass number, number of protons, number of neutrons, number of electrons, and charge for a variety of isotopes. There are three different difficulty levels with four possible tables in each difficulty level. A student must successfully complete one table to earn the trophy for a difficulty level. The table a student receives is selected at random.

The three difficulty levels are differentiated as follows:
  • Apprentice Difficulty Level: Students complete a 5-row table for five different neutral atoms.
  • Master Difficulty Level: Students complete a 5-row table for five different charged ions; either the charge or the number of electrons is stated.
  • Wizard Difficulty Level: Students complete a 5-row table for five different charged ions; students must use the periodic table to infer the charge of the ion. Elements are main group elements. .

The tables for each difficulty level are shown below. Teachers are encouraged to view the tables in order to judge which difficulty levels are most appropriate for their classes. We recommend providing students two or more options.
