Names to Formulas 1
The Names to Formulas 1 Concept Builder provides learners with a cognitive workout identify correct and incorrect formulas for binary ionic compounds. Each question presents the names of three ionic compounds and a formula for each. Students must identify which of the proposed formulas is inconsistent with the given name. Once they feel comfortable with their choices, they can check their answers and receive immediate feedback. There are three different levels of difficulty. The first level includes binary ionic compounds in which the cation is a main group element. The second difficulty level includes binary ionic compounds in which the cation is a transition metal or similar element that could have more than one charge. The third difficulty level includes a mix of binary ionic compounds from the first two difficulty levels.
There are a total of 42 questions in this Concept Builder. They are organized into 14 different Question Groups and spread across the three difficulty levels. Question-specific help is provided for each of the 14 situations. Questions in the same Question Group are similar questions. The built-in score-keeping makes this Concept Builder a perfect candidate for a classroom activity.
